Current News...
August 5 2007 I updated my picutes page with a link to my Picassa web album and fixed a few links on the Links page.
May 27 2007 Long time without an update, but finally here is one. I added a new page of photos from in and around Porto, and updated the research page. Perhaps this is the beginning of more frequent updates!
March 26 2006 Added photos of our new apartment.
December 10 2005 Added a page of photos from a weekend of sightseeing in Washington DC.
October 23 2005 Added a page of photos of climbing Piz Segnes last weekend.
October 2 2005 Added some pictures from my vacation in Canada.
August 27 2005 I was talking yesterday with my roommate, who is a scientist and somebody who regularly visits a chiropractor.  The conversation reminded me of an essay I wrote back in graduate school about the relationship between science and pseudoscience and the responsibility of scientists to clearly differentiate between the two.  It is a bit dated already, but this essay was worth $500 back in 2001 since it helped me to win the French-American Scholarship at Trent (and that is no small thing when you are a graduate student!).  Read it!
January 7 2004 I have added some new pages linked from the Pictures page with photos of winter shenanigans in exotic European locales.  Enjoy!
August 15 2004 I moved to Switzerland!  Also, I updated my links page and my research page.  That is all.
December 10 2003 Hello loyal reader.  I have made many an update today.
October 27 2003 Just a few minor updates today.  I have added a link to my "photo album" that the people at yahoo give me as a DSL subscriber.  I am using this as a repository of full-sized photos of random things that I see while I have my digital camera with me.

I am making this update today from the pleasant, plant-filled  Berkeley Espresso.  Cheesebikini? has a map of free Wi-Fi locations in Berkeley, and even a tip that you can park your car outside of this place after closing time and surf the internet.  This strikes me as something that one should not make a habit of, though.

September 11 2003 With a trip to Europe in my near future I have finally found the inspiration to create a page with some pictures from last fall's pilgrimage through Scotland to the Isle of Lewis (here is said page).  The astute observer will note that there are no people in any of these photos.  This is not a mere coincidence.
August 11 2003 Follow this link, scroll down a bit and choose either the evil RealPlayer or the slightly less evil Windows Media Player to be treated to the Greatest Single Thing on the Internet Right Now.  I first saw this video on MTV in Europe somewhere and it has only reinforced my opinion that Europeans are light years ahead of us North Americans when it comes to ridiculous pop music.  On top of that there is a serious lesson to be learned:  Never wear goofy-looking baggy red pants to a gunfight.  If you trust me use this direct link to the "high-quality" Media Player version.
August 6 2003 After a very long hiatus I have made some updates to the site.  I am not telling you what they are.
January 2 2002 I have uploaded this site into my new domain for now.  I may set up something splashy and new here but for now this is all I have.  I also updated the Pictures page.
December 10 2002 I am flying today, and for the first time in my experience I am on a plane that has 110V power outlets in economy class for (almost) every seat.  With inexhaustible power I have spent the whole flight playing solitaire (I won twice already in about 2 hours of play.  No, that isn't really very good).  I also took this opportunity to make a couple of updates to this here website.  Enjoy!
December 1 2002 I made a few additions to the page.  Most notably, I put some actual information on my Research page.  Use the NavBar 8000 Deluxe to check it out.  You can now download a PDF of my thesis from there!
November 3 2002 Trent finally found my old webpage and wiped it out of cyberspace, so I am putting up something new.  For now this will probably be very basic,  but who knows when inspiration will strike and this place will turn into one of the premier destinations on the internet!  Don't be surprised when it happens.  For now, I am keeping my old counter, which says 1348 right now, for future reference.
